5. Discussion on Terms of Ratification of the Agreement for the 2025-26 Collective Bargaining Contract
Mr. Chris Smedley, Assistant Superintendent

Minutes

Mr. Smedley presented the key components of a new one-year collective bargaining agreement developed through a collaborative, interest-based process. A total of $995,000 in new funds was available for bargaining, driven by enrollment growth and increased state funding. The agreement includes an average teacher salary increase of $2,235 (3.75%), a reduction of the salary schedule from 38 to 34 steps, and a new salary range of $48,550 to $87,000. The ECA base salary was raised to match the teacher base, and new paid positions were added, including tutor coordinator, special education team leads (K–8), assistant and unified track coaches, a girls’ wrestling coach, and an e-sports coach. Insurance premiums will increase 4.6%, with adjusted contribution splits and a $250 increase in the district’s HSA contribution. A new contract clause provides a $100 base salary increase for teachers holding a literacy endorsement. The one-year term was selected due to uncertainty in future state funding. The teachers’ association ratified the agreement on October 2 with 97% approval. Mr Smedley thanked Amy Matthews, Becky Slayton, MVCTA members and MVCSC staff that participated in this years process. The final outcome addresses our shared commitment to our efforts with teachers retention and attraction.  The board thanked all involved in the process and working hard to support teachers.
