5.1 Good News Report

School Accolades & Notable Activities

  • MVHS valedictorian and MLB draftee, Cameron Sullivan was named the county’s baseball athlete of the year.
  • MVHS baseball earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.
  • The start of the school year was an amazing success! Here are a few of the activities: teachers having an extra day of professional development; MES Assistant Principal Edwards hosting a virtual read aloud on FaceBook; Dr. Parker riding an elementary bus on the first day; MVHS cheerleaders welcoming elementary students at their Back-to-School Night; and MVHS Marauder Mentors supporting freshman and new students.
  • Approximately 12 MVHS athletes participated in the IHSAA Student Leadership Conference where there were 1,000 students from across the state attending.

Community Connections

  •  MVHS alumnus, Michael Ertel, was chosen to play for Team Eberlein Drive in the Basketball Tournament (TBT), a 64-team tournament with a $1 million grand prize.
  • The MVHS Athletic Booster Blast was a great success with approximately 2,000 in attendance and raising $25,000 for Mt. Vernon Athletics.

5.2 Spotlight on School: HC3 Update
Mr. Stan Wilkison

Mr. Stan Wilkison, MVHS Assistant Principal and HC3 Career Center Director presented the updated information for the HC3 Career Center.  The HC3 career center will be shared by all four county schools and open in 2026-27 school year. The HC3 Career Center will be housed in the Amplify Building in Hancock County along with Ivy Tech and Hancock Health. Dr. Parker shared his appreciation for all the hard work Mr Wilkison put together on the career center for our students.  

 


5.3 2025 Budget Preview

Minutes

Mr. Greg Elkins presented the 2025 Budget Preview.   The Operations Fund estimate, residential new growth, debt service, comparison slide of similar school revenue per student and tax district breakdown was shared. A public hearing will be held at the September board meeting.   Mrs. Walls and Mrs. Freeman thanked Mr. Elkins for sharing the comparison graph.

7.4 Preschool Renovation

Minutes

Mr Elkins presented information on the Preschool Renovation.  In 2021 a survey was conducted on the preschool program per the future growth plan.   Due to COVID this plan was postponed.   The administration is taking a new look at the project and asking for approval of the invoice for the beginning design work.  Mrs.Walls made a motion to approve the invoice.  Mrs.Freeman second the motion. Motion carried 5-0

MVEF - Mr. Chad Gray - The MVEF will hold the annual SOAR event this Wednesday for staff   On September 12 the MVEF will host the "Chip IN Fore Kids" TopGolf event.

Dr. Parker announced that Joe Hess will be performing at the SOAR Event this year.  He shared is appreciation the MVEF to for holding the event for staff.  The Mt Vernon Alumni Association will host is annual all class reunion on September 7.  Mrs. Brooke Tharp, Mt Vernon High School Principal and graduate will be the guest speaker.
